Disney's Haunted Mansion
Book Layout Redesign
Using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Proceate - I created a new cover and page layouts for Jason Surrell's book about The Haunted Mansion, an attraction located at the various Disney theme parks.

While the original cover for this book is eye-catching, I don't believe it captured the kooky whimsy of Disney's The Haunted Mansion. This original cover (pictured left) is actually a reuse of the poster for the movie that was created based on the attraction. It portrays the mansion as a gritty horror-like setting where terror reigns superior, which isn't accurate at all. Although it can be eerie at times, the mansion tends to be more on the light-hearted and fun side of dark humor. Keeping this in mind, I redesigned the cover and some page spreads as to better capture the aesthetic of The Haunted Mansion. Using a lime green and purple color scheme, an image of the attraction's exterior, and the design of the wallpaper seen throughout, I created a cover that would interest any Haunted Mansion fan. I feel that I accomplished my goal of creating a cover that better represents the well-known Disney dark ride.

Pictured to the left and right are what the pages of the original book look like. Fun to look at and eye-catching, these pages accomplish what they set out to do - engage readers. Keeping this in mind, I wanted to give the pages a cleaner and better organized feel, while still retaining the whimsy of the attraction and the images of said attraction. I played with cropping and cutting up the images to add more visual interest. While not perfect, I still feel that my version modernizes and gives a new perspective of the existing writing and images.
